James & Brent

Two mates from Perth, Western Australia
 

We are two friends based in Perth, Australia with a dream to make the world more connected. Recently, I (James) took a solo trip to Japan and had some of the most incredible experiences of my life, but I couldn't help but feel like there was something missing. Language barriers can take a huge toll mentally and can feel isolating. For me personally, there's nothing I love more than being on an adventure, somewhere completely out of my comfort zone, and making connections with people you never would have otherwise met. Talking for hours about experiences and learning so much about the world we live in just by making that connection.

 

So, why not create a way to have more of these incredible moments and not just leave it up to chance? That was the inspiration for TRVL. At TRVL, your safety is our priority. Connecting with fellow travelers can be exciting and enriching, but it's essential to stay aware and take precautions when meeting new people. Follow these safety guidelines to ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience:

  • Use the "Approximate Location" feature to share your general area rather than your exact location.

  • Avoid sharing personal information such as your home address, phone number, or financial details.

  • Keep conversations within the TRVL app to maintain your privacy and security.

2. Trust Your Instincts

  • If something feels off or too good to be true, trust your gut.

  • Be cautious if someone pressures you to meet quickly or share private information.

  • You can block and report users who make you feel uncomfortable or suspicious.

3. Plan Safe Meetups

  • Always meet in public, well-lit locations with other people around (e.g., cafes, parks, or popular tourist spots).

  • Inform a trusted friend or family member about your plans, including who you are meeting, where, and when.

  • Arrange your own transportation to and from the meeting point.

4. Verify and Communicate

  • Take time to get to know the other person through messaging before agreeing to meet.

  • Consider a video call through a secure platform to verify the person's identity before meeting in person.

  • Set clear expectations and boundaries for the meetup.

5. Stay in Control

  • Always keep your belongings secure and with you.

  • Avoid excessive alcohol or substance use, especially during first-time meetups.

  • If you ever feel unsafe, leave immediately and seek help if necessary.

6. Use TRVL’s Safety Features

  • Enable "Approximate Location" for increased privacy.

  • Block and report users who violate our guidelines or behave inappropriately.

  • Reach out to our support team if you encounter any safety concerns.

7. Emergency Preparedness

  • Keep local emergency numbers accessible.

  • Share your live location with a trusted contact if you feel uncertain.

  • In case of immediate danger, contact local authorities.
